Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack |

With Microsoft Office 2007 came new file formats for Word, Excel, and Power Point. Instead of the familiar "doc," ".xls," and ".ppt" extensions, files are saved with ".docx," "xlsx," and ".pptx" extensions by default.

These new file formats are based on Extensible Markup Language (XML).
However, they are not compatible with previous versions of Microsoft Office.
