Windows 7 Aero Peek |
When Windows 7 was introduced Peek was one of several innovative features added to the Aero interface. It provides a thumbnail depiction of open windows of a particular type when placing the mouse cursor over the Taskbar icon.

For example, assume you have eight tabs open in Internet Explorer. Placing the mouse cursor over the Internet Explorer icon on the task bar results in something like the following:

Once you find the tab you are looking for, clicking on the thumbnail activates that tab (or the tab can be closed by clicking on the red "x" in the thumbnail). However, this becomes a little tedious if you are moving back and forth between one of the tabs and another application, assuming you want to leave most or all of the other tabs open.

Fortunately there is a simple solution for this. Simply holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar will activate the last Internet Explorer tab that was active. Continuing to hold down the Ctrl key and clicking on the Internet Explorer icon cycles through the open tabs.

This handy technique works with other Windows-compliant programs which display corresponding thumbnail images when multiple windows are open.
