Office Word Shortcut Keys - Documents
Microsoft Office provides quite a few shortcut keys available when working with Word documents. The list below provides a description of the most common ones.
Shortcut   Description
Ctrl+N   Create a new document.
 
Ctrl+O   Open an existing document. Opens the "Open" window.
 
Ctrl+S   Save the active document. Opens the "Save As" window if the active document is new and has not been saved.
 
Ctrl+F   Open the "Find" window.
 
Ctrl+G   Open the "Find and Replace - Go To" window.
 
Ctrl+H   Open the "Find and Replace" window.
 
Ctrl+K   Open the "Insert Hyperlink" window.
 
Ctrl+Shift+8   Show all control marks such as paragraph.
 
Ctrl+P   Open the "Print" menu.
 
Ctrl+F2   Open the "Print Preview" menu.
 
Ctrl+W   Close the active document. Provides the opportunity to save if it is new or changes have been made, and it has not been saved.
 
F12   Open "Save As" window.
 
Ctrl+D   Open "Font" window.
 
Shift+F7   Open "Thesaurus" window.
 
Ctrl+F10   Maximize active document.
 
Ctrl+F4   Close the current document. Will ask if you want to save it if it has not been saved. Same as clicking the "X" for the document (not the application) in the upper right corner.
 
Alt+F4   Close the current document - similar to Ctrl+F4, but may close Word also.
 
Ctrl+F6   Move to next Word document. Circles through all documents open in Word.
 
Alt+F6   Move to next Word document. Circles through all documents open in Word. Same as Ctrl+F6.
